NORSK® PVC Floor Tiles — Installation Instructions
View Our Installation Video Here
Important Preparation
-
Store all floor tiles and trim pieces in a dry, climate-controlled area at a minimum of 65°F (18°C) for at least 48 hours prior to installation.
-
Do not store tiles in direct sunlight.
-
Make sure the subfloor is above 45 degree.
⚠️ Warning: Always leave a ¼–½″ expansion gap between tiles and walls or fixed objects. Without this gap, tiles may buckle or separate when exposed to heat, sunlight, or normal temperature changes.
Note: Areas near garage doors are especially vulnerable to direct sun — leave a full ½″ expansion gap in these spots.
Pro Tip: Allow tiles to acclimate to a warm day or direct sunlight before placing heavy objects like safes, cabinets, or workbenches on the floor.
Measuring Your Space
-
Measure the length × width of the area to calculate square footage.
-
Divide by the coverage per pack (13.95 sq. ft. or 14.25 sq. ft., depending on tile style).
-
Always round up and consider an extra box for cutting waste or future replacements.
Pro Tip: Use the Square Foot Calculator on the Norsk product page for quick estimates.
Tools Required
For standard area installations (mat-style):
-
Rubber mallet
For wall-to-wall installations or cutting around obstacles:
-
Straight edge
-
Large utility shears
-
Carpenter’s square and chalk line
-
Black Sharpie (easier to see than pencil)
-
Table saw with an 80-tooth blade or oscillating multipurpose tool
-
⚠️ Warning: Always wear safety glasses when cutting tiles.
Pro Tip: Mark your cut lines clearly before trimming for a professional finish.
Subfloor Preparation
-
Subfloor must be clean, dry, and free of debris, grease, or protrusions.
-
Fill cracks larger than ¼″ with patching compound.
-
Wood floors must be level, smooth, and securely fastened.
-
Concrete must be clean, dry, and fully cured before installation.
Moisture Testing (Below-Grade Installations):
- Tape an 18″ × 18″ sheet of plastic to the floor for 24 hours.
- If moisture appears, seal with a below-grade rated sealer before installation.
⚠️ Warning: Failing to seal can lead to microbial growth and will void your warranty.
Pro Tip: If moisture is a concern, use vented tiles (with AirDry™ channels) to allow airflow.
Installation Options
Standard / Garage Layout
-
Begin at the garage door with tiles pressed against the door track (do not install trim until the end). Go across the front of the garage and balance left and right side to try and get less than 9 inches for each side.
-
Then create a T down the middle of the garage away from the door to see where the tiles end. Try to leave less than one tile.
-
Work left to right, them right to left from center out, Do row by row, keeping the first row straight and work off the tee
-
Leave ¼–½″ expansion gaps at walls and fixed objects.
-
Cut border tiles as needed.
⚠️ Warning: Direct sunlight at garage openings can increase expansion. Leave a ½″ gap in these areas.
Pro Tip: Adjust your layout so that cut border pieces are at least 6″ wide — this makes installation easier and looks more professional.
Minimal Cut Layout
-
Start at one wall with full tiles and cut only at the opposite wall.
-
This reduces cutting time but may create smaller pieces on one side.
Pro Tip: Place full tiles on the most visible side of the room for the best appearance.
Tile Installation
-
Align mushroom teeth and lightly tap with a rubber mallet.
-
Ensure teeth are aligned before tapping to avoid damage.
⚠️ Warning: Do not use a metal hammer — this will break the interlocking teeth.
Pro Tip: If a tooth doesn’t seat fully, flip the mallet and use the wooden handle end to gently press and turn the tooth into place.
Borders & Finishing
-
Border pieces (sold separately) create a beveled edge for safety and a clean finish.
-
Place tiles loosely over the last full tile, mark your cut line, then trim to fit with the correct expansion gap.
Note: Corner border pieces can be cut to create straight borders as needed.
Care & Maintenance
-
Avoid prolonged sun exposure
-
Routine Cleaning: Sweep, vacuum, or damp mop regularly.
-
Deep Cleaning: Mop or scrub with mild detergent. For heavy cleaning, use a rotary scrubber with a soft pad or nylon brush.
-
Please be careful of “Hot Tire” marks left by automotive tires parked on tiles.
⚠️ Warning: Follow all codes and safety guidelines for play areas and recreational spaces.
